Day 3

During after school activities yesterday....Christine played soccer with the students

Prue brought frisbees and taught the students how to play ..she also was a star volleyball player!
And of course Maria found someone to sing with.....Moses!

Today after teaching in the morning, St. Lilia took us over to Kulunda ka Maria  - the school named after Marymount.  It is a community school that we helped fund and build classrooms.  See pictures below.  This school has been built in a very poor community

Below are some of classrooms we helped build!!
This is a 6th grade class with about 35 students....

This third grade class has 72 students....and one teacher!

The children are all happy to be in school.  There are over 300 students with 7 teachers -
                                                              UNBELIEVABLE!
The Head and Deputy Head graciously gave us a tour of school - it was a wonderful visit!

  1. Wow! It looks like you ladies have your hands full, (that is a killer teacher-student ratio), but are still managing to have a great time. I admire what you are doing and hope that someday Maria and I can take our kids to Zambia for a similar experience. Enjoy it for all its worth.

PS - Christine, I'm glad to see that you're bringing back the fanny-pack. I still have mine from the early 90's.

  2. Great pictures again! I thought I had it bad when I had 32 children aged 4 and 5 with just me, but I can barely imagine 72 students with one teacher all squashed into one room... I'm so glad you guys are able to do this.

Look forward to checking in tomorrow!
    Hugs,
    Sally

  4. Hi, it's Iris here. I just wondered whether you could encourage your students to write some poetry. Anything, please. I have a project in mind and it would be just great if you could encourage your students to make a start. If it is too difficult to start without a theme, use "rainbow". I wish you all the best and please do not forget we are all thinking about you.
